Helping to lift one person or family out of poverty.
One-third of my charitable donations will be direct aid to local people who are living in poverty. A recent news story showcased a long-term trailer park in my area that was sold by the owner to a developer. Some people had been living there for 30 years.
Many were on pensions or disability welfare. Canada feels that $750 a month is enough for any person to live on. Of course, it is not! The average rent for a one-bedroom in the area is $1800 per month.
The eviction stories were heartbreaking. There was a veteran in his 70’s, on long-term, disability pension that was forced out. He ended up homeless and living on the streets.
I was moved by their plight but was unable to help. I did not have the personal wealth to make a difference and I did not know how to mobilize help.
Bitcoiners are unique in that we feel a strong sense of community and even as some become very wealthy, I see how they still relate to the poorest in society in a way that other millionaires do not.
Look for problems in your local area that you can help with.
Can you help with travel to a doctor or hospital, a medical procedure, a deposit for a rental property, provide references, etc.
